A Guide to Running a Business

So, the daily grind isn’t enough for you. You’ve survived, you’ve earned some Cal, and now you want to run things. You want a piece of the action. Fine. But understand this: a leader isn’t just a boss; they’re a bigger target. A business or a faction isn’t just a building; it’s a target on the map. If you’re ready for that kind of heat, here are the truths you’ll need to live by.

TRUTH #1: The Hub is a Target.

An empty bar or a silent workshop is a dead zone, and dead zones get carved up by the competition. You are expected to be the beating heart of your operation. Be present. Kickstart scenes. Make your business a hotspot that other players are drawn to. If your place isn’t the one people are talking about, it’s the one they’re forgetting, and forgotten things don’t last long in this city.

TRUTH #2: New Blood is Good Blood.

The city is always chewing up fresh meat. You need to be the one to find it first. A good leader is a mentor, a welcoming presence for newcomers. Be the first place a fresh face discovers. Offer them a gig, show them the ropes, and give them a reason to be loyal. A rookie today is the enforcer who saves your skin tomorrow.

TRUTH #3: Create a Spectacle.

In a world this bleak, a good party is as valuable as a crate of ammo. Host immersive, themed events that tie into the larger, community-wide story. A black-market auction, a fight night, a private concert—these aren’t just gatherings; they are projections of power. They boost your Rep, attract customers, and get your name whispered in the right circles.

TRUTH #4: Your Crew is Your Armor.

Your staff aren’t just employees; they are your lifeblood and your first line of defense. A leader who doesn’t help their people grow their own stories is a leader who will be betrayed. Define their roles, give them responsibility, and use your resources to help them advance. A loyal crew is the only armor that will stop a knife in the back.

The Payoff: The 4x Multiplier

If you can handle the heat, the system rewards you. Recognized leaders earn four times the credits from their operations. Don’t think of this as a salary. It’s a war chest. Use the extra Cal to pay your crew bonuses, trade for rare items to resell, and fund the events that grow your legend. In the Everwinter, credits are power. This is how you get it.
