How Dashboard & HUD Connect: Two Interfaces, One Living Story
You’ll interact with this system through two interfaces that sync constantly:
- The Story HUD (In-World): This is your character’s neural interface, visible on your screen in Second Life. It displays your vital stats (like Blight level), notifications, active encounters, and equipped titles.
- The Character Dashboard (Web Portal): This is your out-of-world web portal, accessed by clicking your Chapter number in the HUD or visiting the Everwinter website. It provides a deep dive into your character’s entire history and progression.
Write a scene? Your Pulse updates everywhere. Unlock a title? A notification appears both in-world and online. It’s a seamless integration between your story and the data it generates.
Dashboard Features: Quantifying Your Narrative
The Dashboard transforms your roleplay into visible progression across several key areas:
1. Vitals.SYS: Your Story’s Vital Signs
This panel tracks three critical metrics reflecting your activity and choices in real-time:
- Blight Level: Measures the Rift’s corruption spreading through your character. Exposure to the Wastes, warp zones, and certain encounters increases this. It tracks your descent from human (0%) towards something else entirely (100%).
- Signal Strength: Quantifies your consistency and reliability within the world’s systems. Daily presence, faction loyalty, and meaningful connections strengthen your Signal. High Signal unlocks opportunities; low Signal leads to obscurity.
- Pulse Rate: Measures your “narrative heat”—how much story you generate. Writing scenes, triggering incidents, and engaging deeply with the world increases your Pulse. This metric proves your impact on the living novel.
2. Psyche.DAT: Five Dimensions of Character Evolution
Everwinter profiles your character across five psychological vectors shaped entirely by narrative choices, rendered as a pentagram chart:
- Entropy: Tracks the chaos surrounding your character—violent scenes, police incidents, choices favouring destruction.
- Resonance: Directly tied to your Blight stage, representing the Rift’s influence over your character’s mind and potentially reality itself.
- Recursion: Counts how many times your character has “flatlined” (narratively died or been incapacitated) and returned. High Recursion marks you as a recurring element in the city’s tragic loops.
- Integration: Measures stability and compliance—faction loyalty, work consistency, adherence to social norms.
- Signal (Psyche): Represents your narrative weight and the influence your posts generate within the community.
Your psyche chart isn’t predetermined—it evolves from the stories you tell, showing where your character’s arc is heading.
3. Designations.REG: Titles Earned Through Roleplay
The city doesn’t give out trophies; it assigns diagnostic Designations. Unlock 60+unique titles across 10+ categories by hitting story milestones — writing consistently (PERSISTENT), surviving trauma (RECURSIVE), generating influential posts (MYTHIC), or building faction loyalty (EMBEDDED).
- Automatic Triggering: Achievements trigger automatically—no quests to accept, just recognition for how you play.
- Rewards: Many titles include credit bonuses based on rarity (Common, Rare, Legendary).
- Narrative Impact: Equipped titles appear above your avatar in-world, broadcasting your narrative reputation and potentially influencing NPC interactions and encounter types.
4. Chrome.AUG: Your Augmentation Marketplace
This panel serves as your marketplace and maintenance log for cybernetic Chrome. These upgrades are deeply integrated into the world; you unlock the ability to carry and use higher level weapons, mitigate the absorption of Blight, can hack into systems faster, and more.
- Browse & Purchase: Use credits/cals earned through roleplay to buy augments across 9 categories and 5 tiers.
- Prerequisites: Each augment requires specific story prerequisites—Chapters earned, Blight stages survived, faction Rep proven.
- Installation & Maintenance: Purchase here, then visit a Ripperdoc NPC in-world for installation roleplay. The Dashboard tracks your chrome’s Integrity degradation (0.5% per day), signaling when maintenance scenes are due.
5. Comms.NET: AI-Matched Storytelling Partners
This is your mission log for the Encounter System, which uses an the Narrator AI to generate story collisions and match you with players, nudging you along the way.
- Matchmaking: Every day, the algorithm scans your profile (Blight, faction, writing style) and matches you with a compatible player, generating a tailored scene hook.
- Real-Time Tracking: View active encounters, time remaining, completion status, and your overall reliability score.
- Reliability Matters: High completion rates (80%+) earn priority matching. Ghosting scenes lowers your priority.
6. Status.SYS: Progression Powered by Story
Your core progression metric is Chapters, which advance purely through narrative contribution.
