The Rift never receives one answer. Three truths about it circulate in-world; no source ever confirms one; any future document that resolves the mystery is non-canon by definition, including any document produced by us. Anything that offers you a settled answer has been compromised, and the compromise is usually the point.
This isn’t a gap in the record. That’s how the record is built. Everything else in these volumes can be revised. This can’t.
