MNEMONIC ARCHIVE. OBJECTS OF CONFIRMED PROVENANCE (MOSTLY)

The named things. Every one of these is real, is somewhere, and is worth more than your life to the wrong people, which is most people. Provenance notes as of this filing.

Volkov’s Journal. Anya Volkov’s field journal, dismembered and scattered; some forty pages circulate, each a small fortune and a diplomatic instrument among the clans, who treat a genuine page as a letter of passage. The last recovered page points into the Amber Garden and reads, in full, “The garden is tended. I want to meet the gardener.” Page hunters call the missing remainder “the back half,” and more than one has walked into the Garden after it.

Null’s Coffin. The netrunner’s physical deck, powered down since the night he went to pieces across the Interlink. Three factions claim to hold it; at most one is lying least. Every credible account of a genuine power-up agrees on one detail and only one, the fans spin the wrong way.

The First Plates. The Carrion Prophet’s original Gutter Gospels, scratched into scrap steel by the Prophet’s own hand. The church circulates copies. The copies are corrected. The heresy, whispered even among the faithful, is that the originals differ in one repeated word, and the sects that know which word don’t include the sects that lead.

The Ignition Key. The ceremonial key from First Fire, paraded every Founding Day at the head of the procession. The paraded key is a replica. Aurora knows. The whereabouts of the original is, depending on who you ask, a vault matter, a theft matter, or the single best-kept secret of the Grid Wars, and the fact that Aurora has never once offered a reward is the detail worth sitting with.

The Meridian Reel. The last transmission out of Meridian, forty seconds, catalogued as wind. Sliced and slowed, the wind resolves into a voice. Every splicer who has worked it swears it speaks one word; no two splicers report the same word; and no splicer, in the trade’s whole history, has agreed to work it twice.

The queue-chits. Numbered plastic tags from the Winnowing. Worthless as material, beyond price as politics, carrying your grandmother’s number says everything about you that matters to certain rooms, and the resistance is said to know its own by them. The CA classifies possession as sentimental. The CA classifies very little as sentimental. Sit with that one too.

A Lode Shard. The apex, and the entry with the least to say, because anyone who holds a stable fragment of the thing the record blames for the end of the world has, by definition, learned to be quiet about it. The standing wisdom of the trade, every rumor of a shard is false, including this one.
