What can be said about the Rift divides into what’s observed and what’s believed, and this file keeps them apart on purpose.
Observed. There’s a site, out where the charts stop, that instruments won’t survey and expeditions don’t finish describing. From its direction comes the amber, the Whispers under the radio floor, and, in seven filed testimonies, the intrusions. Light behaves wrong along that heading. Every attempt to map the ground past a certain line has returned either nothing or accounts that disagree with themselves. It doesn’t lead anywhere, but it bleeds.

Believed. The recovered Prometheus material describes it as a tear, their word, in the fabric of natural law, opened when the project pulled a thread that belonged to an older pattern. The Mnemonic consensus, disputed even among Mnemonics, reads the site’s Echo as an opening rather than a breaking, and declines to say what opened. The Ascension calls it a mouth. The Undertow calls it a door somebody went home through. The Doctrine of the Unanswered holds all of these and confirms none.
What the reader should carry is the observed part. Something is coming through, it’s been coming through for four centuries, and every institution in this city has built its theology, its business model, or both, around not finishing that sentence.
