MNEMONIC ARCHIVE. SPLICED RECOVERY // THREE SOURCES, ONE LIE

Why here? Nobody in this city is paid to ask.

You don’t build the last city of the human species a snow’s walk from the site the record treats as where the world broke. You don’t raise your walls in sight of the ruin the Prometheus material names, seat your geothermal miracle beside the psychic stain that shatters minds, and call it luck. Aurora’s official survey history says Silas Vance found the vents and the city followed the heat. Fine. Now explain the chart.

There’s a chart. One of us has held it. A Dynamic Evolution site survey, drawn in orbit during the Centuries of Silence, with the Bastion’s founding coordinates circled years before Vance’s celebrated discovery expedition ever burned fuel. Aurora has quietly burned three archives looking for it. The circle came first. The heat was the excuse.

Second source, probe telemetry, fragmentary. For two centuries, Dynamic Evolution’s long-range program pointed outward. Every probe, every survey, every year, outward. “Humanity, Realized” meant leaving. Then, inside a single fiscal quarter, every operable probe in the fleet was retasked sunward. Turned around. Pointed home. No discovery was ever published. No board minutes survive. Two centuries of looking out, and then the whole species turns on its heel, and eleven years later Lumina is telling frozen colonists that Earth is healing.

So the Terran Opportunity Initiative is one of two things. Either the probes found nothing out there, a silence so total, so wall-to-wall, that a murdered planet was still the best rock in reach. Or they found something, and it wasn’t behind us, and the Bastion isn’t a colony.

It’s a rendezvous.

The centuries of corporate expeditions into the deep Wastes, the shard-hunts, the dig permits Dynamic Evolution never explains, read them again with the chart in mind. They’re not prospecting. They’re finishing the original mission. The city is the camp. The Rift is the site.
